The jury

The members of the jury of the Wedding Industry Awards were selected on the basis of some strict criteria such as their feeling with our sector and commitment to our candidates. They are all active in the wedding industry, which is very important to us, and they can assess the submitted projects independently.

In our search for qualified jury members, we took into account the following criteria:

  • impartiality

  • involvement in the wedding business

  • expertise

Read below the short biography of the jury members for the WIA's 2020.

Nicky Vankets

Fashion designer from Limburg Nicky Vankets knew at a very young age what he wanted to become when he grew up. When he turned eighteen he decided to apply for the London College of Fashion from which he graduated in 2001. In 2002 he went to Milan where he was told by a co-operator from Armani that it was better to start his own label. No sooner said than done. Nicky Vankets became famous thanks to his eccentric wedding dresses and costumes but he also designs ready-to-wear clothing, shoes and jewellery. He designed the wedding gowns of Kim Clijsters, Yanina Wickmayer and Anouk Matton (aka Mrs Dimitri Vegas) among others and opened flagship stores in Hasselt and Antwerp.

Liz van de Lande

Liz van de Lande is wedding planner in The Netherlands since 2010 under the name WeddingBliz. She speaks English, French and Dutch and organises weddings for international couples in Amsterdam and beyond. Liz is also owner of Weddings & Business, the network of wedding vendors in the Netherlands and the organisation that manages the Keurmerk Trouwen. This quality label is assigned by an extern and unbiased examination office and stands for professionality, reliability and innovation. For several years, Liz was also actively involved in the organisation of the Dutch Wedding Awards.

Elodie Deceuninck

Elodie Deceuninck is a Belgian wedding photographer and lives in Brussels. In 2014 she became co-founder of Bel’Arte, a gift shop with unique designer products of Belgian creators. But fortunately photography was never far away. Not much time later, she joined forces with jack-of-all-trades and namesake Elodie Wilmès, with whom she established Hello Madame. Together they organise classy and thought-out photoshoots for bachelorette parties. Elodie travels all the way across the country to immortalise the most beautiful moments: weddings, births, etc. On her Instagram page you can catch a glimpse of all adventures she was able to capture.

Eva Germeys

Eva Germeys is passionate about life stories. At the age of 16, she stood for the first time on a stage as a presenter, following dictation and recital, and acting in the theatre since her 18th. After 15 years of working in the socio-cultural sector, she founded Words of Eva in 2016. With her voice and words she wants to help people to tell their story. Eva provides personal, warm ceremonies for marriage and farewells, in a pure and casual style. She is also a voice-over and gives writing lessons. In October 2019 she launched "the ceremony architects", the first podcast in the wedding industry. Eva will be hosting the Wedding Industry Awards in 2020.

Roger Smet

Roger Smet has a licentiate degree in law and notary and was appointed bailiff of the judicial district of Ghent.

Since April 1st 2014 he is also bailiff of the judicial district of East-Flanders and in 2014 and 2016 he was supervisor

of the Miss Belgium election.

Elodie Wilmès

Elodie Wilmès isn’t only a wedding planner but also an event organiser, wedding designer, flower designer and story teller. In October 2013 she launched Love&Tralala, the very first Belgian blog in French about love and weddings. Besides that she also writes articles for and every six weeks she organises a Creative Sunday together with three other bloggers. Moreover, she will arrange fun bachelorette parties and since 2015 you can find her once a year at her Kiss The Bride wedding fair. Instead of organising a fair this year, she will be hosting at our Wedding Industry Awards 2019!

Lieke Biesemans

After years of working in the political world, Lieke Biesemans decided to completely turn her life around. It all started when she was a story teller at the wedding of her sister and brother-in-law. In 2013 she founded Stories by Mabel and since then she does what she loves best: telling personal stories for all kinds of ceremonies. During the ceremony of one hour and a half she tells a personal story and a little piece of music makes it a total and well-balanced experience. Moreover, together with creative soul and sister Katrien she translates ideas into unique events with a twist. Lieke will be hosting at the Wedding Industry Awards 2019!

The design of the WIA award was designed and chosen with great care and precision.

Nominated companies receive the official label 'Award Participant' designed for and by the WIA's.
